About
Quill and Dagger is a secret senior honor society at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, founded on May 28, 1893, to recognize undergraduates demonstrating leadership, character, and service. Originally men-only, it was the first Ivy League honor society to admit women. Membership lists were opened to the public in 1899, while meetings and activities remain private. In 1929, it was described by The New York Times as 'the highest non-scholastic honor within reach of undergraduates.' The society is responsible for campus traditions including songs and the Lynah Rink cowbell cheer, and it spearheaded the construction of the Quill and Dagger Tower War Memorial (dedicated 1931) to honor Cornell's World War I casualties, with the society granted use of the top floors.
