About
Prudence MacLeod (born Prudence Murdoch in 1958) is the eldest child of Australian media mogul Rupert Murdoch from his first marriage to Patricia Booker, a former flight attendant. Her early life was marked by her parents' divorce in 1967, after which she moved to London with her father and stepmother Anna Torv following his acquisition of the News of the World tabloid. She received her secondary education at a state school in London and later at the Dalton School in Manhattan after her family relocated to New York City. She did not pursue tertiary education and briefly worked as a journalist for the News of the World upon returning to London. Prudence has maintained a lower public profile compared to her siblings and has been involved in low-profile family matters. She has also been involved in her father's media empire, holding stakes and several directorial roles within News Corporation subsidiaries, including serving as a non-executive director on the board of Times Newspapers Ltd from 2011 to 2022. She is a beneficiary of the family trust and co-founded the production company Shine. Recognized as a philanthropist, she contributes to various causes through family trusts and initiatives. Married to Alasdair MacLeod, she is part of the broader Murdoch family network, which wields significant influence in global media and philanthropy, though she has been less active in operational aspects of the business.
