About
The Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) is a United Nations-supported international organization and network dedicated to advancing responsible investment by integrating environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors into investment practices. Founded in 2006 through an initiative led by then-UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan and launched in April 2006 at the New York Stock Exchange in partnership with UNEP FI and the UN Global Compact, the PRI brings together a global network of over 5,000 institutional investors, asset managers, and service providers (including pension funds, insurance companies, and sovereign wealth funds) managing approximately $62 trillion in assets. The organization promotes sustainable investment practices among asset owners and managers through its six aspirational Principles, which provide a voluntary framework for signatories to incorporate sustainability considerations into investment analysis, decision-making, ownership practices, and engagement with companies and policymakers. As the world's leading advocate for responsible investment, the PRI offers resources such as educational guides, reports, workshops, and annual reporting tools, while facilitating investor collaboration, policy engagement, and transparency initiatives to foster a more sustainable global financial system that aligns financial objectives with broader societal and environmental goals.
