Piyush Vedprakash Goyal, born on 13 June 1964 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, is an Indian politician and senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The son of Ved Prakash Goyal, a former Union Minister for Shipping, he qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1989 and holds a B.Com degree along with an LLB. Goyal began his political career in student politics and rose through the ranks of the BJP, becoming a key strategist and fundraiser. He served as a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha from Maharashtra (2010-2024), where he was Leader of the House from 2019 to 2024, before being elected to the 18th Lok Sabha from Mumbai North constituency in 2024. Elevated to Cabinet Minister on 3 September 2017, Goyal has held multiple portfolios including Minister of Finance (interim), Railways (2017-2019), Commerce and Industry (since 2019, the longest-serving in this role), Textiles, and Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution. Currently serving as Minister of Commerce and Industry in the Government of India, he received the 2018 Carnot Prize for contributions to energy policy. Goyal is married to Seema Goyal, with two children, Dhruv and Radhika.
