Peggy McMaster is the First Lady of South Carolina, married to Governor Henry McMaster since the mid-1980s with their union spanning over 38 years. A native of South Carolina, she graduated from Spartanburg High School and attended Spartanburg Junior College before working as a flight attendant for United Airlines, where she met Henry McMaster when he was a legislative assistant to U.S. Senator Strom Thurmond. Her family background includes her late mother, Mary Rogers McAbee (née Anderson), a Limestone College graduate who taught in Cherokee and Spartanburg Counties, and three aunts who also attended the same institution. As First Lady, she is actively involved in community and charitable activities across the state, serving as an advocate for domestic violence victims and holding board positions with the American Red Cross and Pawmetto Lifeline. Her personal interests include fitness, fashion, and gardening, and she balances her public role with family life as a mother in the governor's residence in Columbia.
