Paul Sagan is an American media executive and businessman born on January 1, 1959. He began his career in broadcast journalism in New York, starting as a news writer at WCBS-TV and advancing to news director, where he won three Emmy Awards for his work. In the mid-1990s, Sagan joined Time Warner, playing a key role in designing and launching the 24-hour news channel NY1. By 1995, he was appointed president and editor of new media at Time Inc., focusing on digital innovations in publishing. In 1998, Sagan transitioned to the technology sector by joining Akamai Technologies, a leading content delivery network company, initially as senior vice president of global content services. He rose to president and CEO in 2005, leading the company through significant growth, and served as executive chairman until 2014. Following his tenure at Akamai, Sagan became a managing director and special advisor at General Catalyst Partners, a prominent venture capital firm, in 2014. He also chaired the Massachusetts Board of Elementary and Secondary Education from 2015 to 2018. In 2017, Sagan was appointed CEO of The Boston Globe and Boston Globe Media Partners, where he has overseen the newspaper's digital transformation and expansion amid challenges in the media industry.
