Prior to CREW, Bookbinder held significant roles in public service during the Obama administration. He served as a special counsel in the White House Counsel's Office, advising on legislative and ethics matters, and as deputy assistant attorney general for legislative affairs at the U.S. Department of Justice, where he handled interactions with Congress on justice-related policies. Before entering government, he was the legislative director and senior counsel at the Project on Government Oversight (POGO), a watchdog group, focusing on whistleblower protections, procurement reform, and government transparency. Bookbinder is also a writer, contributing articles on ethics and democracy to various publications.
A graduate of Yale Law School (J.D.) and Haverford College (B.A.), Bookbinder has built a career centered on legal advocacy for ethical governance.
