Nicholas Negroponte is a Greek American architect and computer scientist born on December 1, 1943. He attended MIT starting in 1961 and graduated in 1966 with a master's degree in architecture, joining the MIT faculty that same year as a pioneer in computer-aided design. Negroponte co-founded the MIT Media Lab with Jerome B. Wiesner in 1985, serving as its director for the first 15 years and later becoming chairman emeritus. He founded the One Laptop per Child (OLPC) association and authored the 1995 book 'Being Digital,' which has been translated into more than 40 languages. Negroponte delivered the first TED talk in 1984 and has given 13 more since then.
