About
The New Liberal Movement (Hebrew: התנועה הליברלית החדשה; English: Israeli Freedom Movement) is a volunteer-based political organization in Israel, co-founded in 2011 by Moti Heinrich, Yaron Lerman, Amir Weitman (journalist), Dr. Avi Nov (lawyer), and Boaz Arad (spokesperson) in response to the socialist-leaning 2011 Tent Protests. It promotes classical liberalism, individualism, free markets, and personal liberties through education and advocacy, including organizing lectures, debates, and the annual Israeli Freedom Conference; holding demonstrations against economic shutdowns and for a professional volunteer army; publishing articles in Israeli media; representing before Knesset committees; assisting in establishing lobbies for a professional army and liberalism; and filing High Court petitions (e.g., against the Honey Council in 2011). The movement opposes monopolistic councils and conscription, avoids the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and partisan politics (though some members have affiliations, such as with Likud or running in 2013 elections with Ale Yarok), and remains active without partisan engagement.
