Neal M. Sher (1947-2021) was an American lawyer renowned for his significant roles in U.S. government investigations and pro-Israel advocacy. Born on August 29, 1947, in New York City, he earned a Bachelor of Arts from Columbia University in 1969 and a Juris Doctor from New York University School of Law in 1972. He began his career in private practice before joining the U.S. Department of Justice in 1980, where he served as director of the Office of Special Investigations (OSI) from 1984 to 1995, leading efforts to identify, denaturalize, and deport former Nazi war criminals in the United States. From 1993 to 2000, he served as executive director of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), the leading pro-Israel lobbying organization in the United States, strengthening bipartisan support for Israel in Congress. After leaving AIPAC, he consulted on Middle East policy and established a solo legal practice in New York City in 2002, later relocating it to Southampton, New York, in 2020. His career bridged legal enforcement, political lobbying, and policy consulting, making him a key figure in Holocaust justice and Israel advocacy networks. He passed away on October 3, 2021, in Southampton, New York, at age 74.
