U.S.-based coalition active during the Cold War advocating for the rights and emigration of Soviet Jews. Founded in June 1971 as an umbrella organization succeeding the American Jewish Conference on Soviet Jewry (AJCSJ, est. 1964), coordinating major national Jewish organizations and local groups. Key efforts included lobbying U.S. government, public rallies (e.g., 1987 Washington, DC rally with 250,000 participants), participation in Helsinki Accords and OSCE processes, and support for refuseniks. Following USSR dissolution in 1991, reoriented and renamed National Coalition Supporting Eurasian Jewry (NCSEJ), now protecting and promoting interests of Jewish communities in over 20 countries in Eastern Europe and former Soviet states.
