About
The Muslim American Society (MAS) is a dynamic nonprofit charitable, religious, social, and educational organization founded in 1993. It aims to establish Islam in North America as a vibrant, living faith by imparting Islamic knowledge, promoting community service, and empowering individuals to live Islam as a comprehensive way of life. MAS engages in a wide range of activities including youth development, Dawah (inviting to Islam), community outreach, interfaith relations, social services, and civic engagement. The organization seeks to inspire people to strive for God-consciousness, liberty, and justice, and to convey Islam with clarity. MAS has historical ties to the Muslim Brotherhood and has faced allegations from various sources, including government reports, media, and critics such as Jacobs, who claims MAS controls the Islamic Society of Boston and has ties to the Muslim Brotherhood; MAS officially denies these accusations. Some foreign governments, including the United Arab Emirates, have listed MAS as a terrorist organization. MAS has also been involved in legal disputes, notably suing Joe Kaufman and Americans Against Hate for defamation in 2004 over false accusations of being a front for Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood; this lawsuit was dismissed in 2007.
