He serves as chairman and managing director of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), a multinational conglomerate founded by his father Dhirubhai Ambani. After growing up in Mumbai following his family's relocation in 1958, he studied chemical engineering at the Institute of Chemical Technology in Mumbai and briefly pursued an MBA at Stanford University before dropping out in 1980 to join the family business in 1981.
