About
Mildred 'Molly' Klein Pollard (sometimes spelled Mollie), maiden name Klein (possibly Kahn), was the wife of microbiologist Morris Pollard and a homemaker. The couple, married for at least 52 years as of 1991, resided in Galveston, Texas, where their son Jonathan was born in 1954, before relocating to South Bend, Indiana, in 1961, where Morris taught at the University of Notre Dame. Molly and Morris were part of a Jewish family with roots connected to Vilna, Lithuania, and her family perished in the Holocaust, which Jonathan Pollard cited as motivation for his actions. Molly actively advocated for the release of her son Jonathan Pollard, convicted of spying for Israel. In 1989, she and Morris visited Israel for two weeks. She died in 2001, following which Jonathan was denied permission by U.S. authorities to attend her funeral, leading to a shiva observance.
