About
Dr. Misha Galperin, born circa 1958 in Odessa, Ukraine, immigrated to the United States in 1976 at age 18 as a refugee fleeing antisemitic persecution in the Soviet Union. He holds a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from New York University and began his career as an interpreter, teacher, psychotherapist, and executive in social services, community services, and educational institutions. His extensive nonprofit leadership includes roles as COO of UJA-Federation of New York and New York Association for New Americans, CEO of the Educational Alliance, CEO and Executive Vice President of the Jewish Federation of Greater Washington (nine years), and various transformations at institutions like the Center for Jewish History, Museum of Jewish Heritage, and ANU – Museum of the Jewish People in Tel Aviv. A graduate of the Wexner Heritage Program, he was recognized in 2010 as one of the top five influential Jewish leaders in North America by The Forward. From 2019 to 2024, he served as President and CEO of the Weitzman National Museum of American Jewish History in Philadelphia, initially as a consultant and interim CEO, leading it through Chapter 11 bankruptcy amid the COVID-19 pandemic, securing a $10 million gift, raising over $66.5 million, and expanding its reach with online programs viewed by millions. He is the author or co-author of two books published by Jewish Lights: 'The Case for Jewish Peoplehood: Can We Be One?' and 'Reimagining Leadership in Jewish Organizations: Ten Practical Lessons.' He resides in Brooklyn, New York, with his family. Currently, he serves as CEO and President of the Jewish Agency International Development, in addition to being President of ZANDAFI Philanthropic Advisors, his consulting firm named after his children, advising philanthropists, foundations, and nonprofits on strategy and resource development.
