About
Mina Cohen (née Werker) is the mother of Yossi Cohen and a seventh-generation Sabra born to a distinguished Jewish family with deep roots in Eretz Yisrael, including early Chabad chassidim. On her paternal side, her great-grandmother Alte Werker was given up for adoption following the loss of her parents' previous children on the advice of a rebbe, and later married Rav Yaakov Moshe Werker of a prominent Jerusalem family. Their son, Yechiel Werker—Mina's grandfather—wed Chentcha Lipkin from a renowned Chabad family in Chevron (Hebron). On her mother's side, her maternal grandfather died tragically while walking from Jerusalem to Petach Tikvah in search of food during a famine, succumbing to poisonous grasses. Her father, an 'ish sefer' (man of Torah), worked in a print shop and brought home fresh seforim daily, fostering an intellectual home environment centered on learning. Mina herself worked as a teacher and school principal.
