About
Michael Wyschogrod (September 28, 1928 – December 17, 2015) was a German-American Jewish philosopher and theologian. Born in Germany, he grew up in Brooklyn, New York, receiving a Talmudic education at Orthodox Jewish schools. He earned degrees from City College of New York, Yeshiva University, and Columbia University, and pursued an academic career as a professor of philosophy and religion at institutions including the City University of New York system, the University of Houston, and universities in Europe and Israel. A prominent advocate for Jewish-Christian interfaith dialogue, Wyschogrod's scholarship bridged philosophy, theology, and interfaith relations. His influential works, such as 'The Body of Faith' (1983), explored themes of Jewish chosenness and covenant theology, profoundly shaping Modern Orthodox thought and discussions on Judaism's election of Israel.
