About
Michael Stahel Farmer, Baron Farmer of Bishopsgate (born 17 December 1944), is a British Conservative life peer in the House of Lords, financier, businessman, and philanthropist. Known by the nickname 'Mr Copper' for his extensive involvement in the copper trading industry, he built a successful career in finance, founding RK Capital Management in 1999 after working at Philipp Brothers and other trading firms, where he amassed significant wealth through commodities trading. He served as treasurer of the Conservative Party from 2011 to 2018, playing a key role in fundraising efforts, and was appointed a life peer in 2014. As a Conservative peer, he has been vocal on social issues, particularly those related to family policy, marriage, and child welfare, often drawing from his devout born-again Christian faith. Farmer is a committed philanthropist focusing on Christian education, family values, and anti-abortion causes through organizations like the Family Education Trust, which he chairs. A strong supporter of Brexit, he advocated for the UK's withdrawal from the European Union during the 2016 referendum. Personally, he is the father of George Farmer, who is married to American conservative commentator Candace Owens, establishing a familial connection to influential figures in international conservative circles. His work intersects business acumen with political and religious activism, positioning him within networks of influence in UK conservative politics and global Christian conservatism.
