About
Mark Jay Meckler (born 1961) is an American conservative political activist, attorney, and business executive known for his advocacy of limited government and constitutional reforms. He gained prominence as a co-founder of the Tea Party Patriots in 2009, a grassroots organization that played a key role in the Tea Party movement opposing excessive taxation and government spending. Meckler served as a national coordinator for the group until his resignation in 2012. Following this, he co-founded the Convention of States Project in 2013, an initiative under Citizens for Self-Governance aimed at calling a constitutional convention to propose amendments limiting federal power, imposing fiscal restraints, and establishing term limits for federal officials. As president of Convention of States Action, Meckler has been a vocal proponent of this Article V strategy, building a network of state legislators and activists across the United States. In addition to his activism, Meckler has pursued business ventures and legal practice. From February to May 2021, he briefly served as interim CEO of the social media platform Parler following its temporary shutdown after the January 6, 2021, U.S. Capitol riot. His work continues to focus on influencing conservative policy through nonprofit organizations, emphasizing self-governance and resistance to federal overreach. Meckler's efforts have positioned him within broader networks of conservative influencers, including ties to wealthy donors like the Wilks brothers. While praised by supporters for mobilizing grassroots energy, he has faced criticism from opponents who argue that a constitutional convention risks unintended amendments undermining civil liberties.
