About
Marc Erik Elias, born February 1, 1969, is a prominent American elections attorney renowned for his work with the Democratic Party. He earned a joint degree in law and political science from Duke University in 1993. His career shifted from initial academic aspirations in political science, encouraged by his brother, to pioneering work in political law. Elias previously served as a partner and head of the political-law practice at Perkins Coie, a Seattle-based firm with deep ties to Democrats, including acting as general counsel for Hillary Clinton's campaign. In 2020, he founded Democracy Docket, a platform dedicated to voting rights and election litigation. Elias left Perkins Coie in 2021 to establish the Elias Law Group, continuing his focus on shaping election rules and advancing Democratic interests in courts nationwide. According to The New York Times, Elias has arguably done more than any single person outside government to influence the Democratic Party and U.S. election regulations. He has been profiled for wearing GOP criticism as a 'badge of honor' and played a key role in post-2020 election defenses against challenges to results, positioning him as a central figure in contemporary voting rights battles.
