Mana Saeed Al Otaiba, born on May 15, 1946, in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, is the father of Yousef Al Otaiba. He is a pioneering Emirati businessman, poet, public servant, and prominent petroleum magnate. Son of Saeed Al Otaiba, he earned a PhD from Cairo University in 1976 and received honorary doctorates, including a Doctorate of Law from Keio University (Japan) and the University of Manila (Philippines), and a Doctorate of Economics from the University of São Paulo (Brazil). His career highlights include serving as Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources of the UAE under Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, acting as President of OPEC for a record six conferences (26th, 52nd, 53rd, 54th, 62nd, and 63rd) between 1971 and 1983, and serving as the 14th Secretary General of OPEC from July 19, 1983, to December 31, 1983. He has been a personal advisor to UAE Presidents Sheikh Zayed, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and currently Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Business interests encompass former chairmanship of Noor Capital, major shareholding in Abu Dhabi Group (Dhabi Group) and Etisalat, and ownership of Royal Mirage Hotels in Morocco (Marrakech, Fes, Agadir). A prolific author and poet, he has published over 135 poetry books in Arabic and English, with notable works including OPEC and the Petroleum Industry (1975), Petroleum and the Economy of the United Arab Emirates (1977), and Dialogue of Civilizations: The Self and the Other (2008).
