While a graduate student at the University of Chicago, Wolfowitz took two courses with Leo Strauss: one on Montesquieu and one on Plato's Laws. Wolfowitz later recalled them as 'two terrific courses.' Though Wolfowitz himself clarified that Albert Wohlstetter, not Strauss, was his primary mentor, the Straussian intellectual tradition profoundly shaped the neoconservative movement that Wolfowitz came to lead.
