About
Prince Khaled bin Salman Al Saud, born in 1988, is a prominent member of the Saudi royal family and a key figure in the Kingdom's government. He is the youngest son of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and his third wife, Princess Hassa bint Mohammed bin Ahmad al Sudairi, and is the younger brother of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS). Educated in Saudi Arabia, he holds a bachelor's degree in law from King Saud University, which laid the foundation for his career in public service and international relations.
Khaled's professional trajectory began in the military, where he served as a pilot in the Royal Saudi Air Force. In 2017, at the age of 29, he was appointed as Saudi Arabia's Ambassador to the United States, making him the youngest ambassador to Washington in Saudi history. During his tenure until 2019, he played a crucial role in strengthening bilateral ties amid tensions over issues like the Yemen conflict and the Khashoggi assassination. Following his ambassadorship, he was named Minister of State for Foreign Affairs in 2019, and in May 2022, he was elevated to Minister of Defense, succeeding his brother MBS in that role. In this position, Khaled oversees Saudi Arabia's military strategy, including modernization efforts and regional security operations.
Known for his modern outlook and fluency in English, Prince Khaled represents the younger generation of Saudi leadership under Vision 2030. He has been involved in high-level delegations and has advocated for Saudi interests in international forums. While maintaining a relatively low public profile compared to MBS, his appointments underscore the consolidation of power within the Salman family branch of the Al Saud dynasty.
