Katherine Bauer is a visual and performance artist born in Houston, Texas, who lives and works in Hudson, New York. Her practice primarily engages with celluloid film and the cinematic apparatus, producing works across sculpture, photography, installation, and live performance. Bauer's art frequently draws on mythologies, folklores, and narratives, as documented in her exhibitions and profiles on platforms like Artsy and the Film-Makers' Cooperative. She earned a B.A. in Film and Electronic Arts from Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York, in 2006, and an M.F.A. in Studio Art from New York University's Steinhardt Department of Art in 2013. Bauer participated in an NYU exchange program at the University of Paris Panthéon-Sorbonne from 2012 to 2013. She has received prestigious awards, including a 2012-2013 Cité Internationale des Arts Paris Residency and a Carla Bruni-Sarkozy Foundation Fellowship for the same period.
