About
Juan Gerardo Antonio Guaidó Márquez is a Venezuelan opposition leader and industrial engineer who graduated from the Universidad Católica Andrés Bello in 2007. As a student leader, he participated in protests against the Hugo Chávez government's reform measures. He joined the social-democratic Popular Will party and served as a federal deputy to the National Assembly representing the state of Vargas. Elected President of the National Assembly in 2019, he invoked constitutional powers to declare himself interim president, becoming a central figure in efforts to challenge Nicolás Maduro's presidency. He was recognized by the U.S. and nearly 60 countries as interim president of Venezuela from 2019 to 2023. Guaidó has faced controversies, including a 2019 prank call by Russian imposters posing as Swiss officials, where he reportedly expressed willingness to manage frozen government funds via secret channels (reported by Sputnik). Recent polls indicate low approval ratings among Venezuelans, with a minus-74 rating in one survey. Currently in exile, he remains active on social media: Twitter/X (@jguaido, 2.6M followers), Instagram (@jguaido, 4M followers), and Facebook (Juan Guaido M).
