About
Jonathan Steinberg is an American financier best known as the founder, President, and CEO of WisdomTree Investments, Inc., a prominent asset management firm specializing in exchange-traded funds (ETFs). Established in 2006, WisdomTree has grown into one of the largest ETF providers globally, pioneering smart beta and fundamentally weighted indexing strategies. Steinberg's career in finance began after graduating from the Wharton School, where he initially worked in sales and trading roles before joining his father-in-law Michael Steinhardt's hedge fund, Steinhardt Partners, in the early 1990s. There, he rose to become a managing director, gaining expertise in quantitative investing and portfolio management that would later inform WisdomTree's innovative product lineup. His professional journey also includes stints at other financial institutions, such as PaineWebber and Deutsche Bank, where he focused on equity research and institutional sales. In 2005, after Steinhardt Partners wound down, Steinberg launched WisdomTree with a vision to disrupt traditional index fund methodologies by incorporating fundamental metrics like dividends and earnings. Under his leadership, the firm has expanded its offerings to include ETFs across equities, fixed income, commodities, and alternatives, managing billions in assets. Steinberg has been instrumental in navigating regulatory landscapes and market shifts, positioning WisdomTree as a key player in the passive investing revolution. Personally, Steinberg is married to Sara Steinhardt, the daughter of billionaire hedge fund pioneer Michael Steinhardt, tying him into influential financial and philanthropic networks. The couple resides in New York, and Steinberg maintains a low public profile outside his professional endeavors, though his firm's success has garnered attention in investment circles.
