John Barden Shadegg, born October 22, 1949, in Phoenix, Arizona, is a former Republican U.S. Representative from Arizona's 3rd congressional district (1995–2011), known for conservative positions, leadership in the Republican Study Committee, and involvement in energy and commerce issues. He is a co-founder of a conservative political action committee (PAC) and non-profit organization. Of partial Swiss descent, his father was Stephen Shadegg, a prominent political strategist, author, and conservative activist who worked with Barry Goldwater. Shadegg graduated from Camelback High School (1967), earned a Bachelor of Arts (1972) and Juris Doctor (1975) from the University of Arizona, and served in the Arizona Air National Guard (1969–1975). His professional career includes private law practice, Special Assistant to the Arizona Attorney General (1983–1990), partner at Steptoe & Johnson LLP (2011–circa 2015) focusing on government affairs and public policy, and principal at Shadegg Associates, LLC (2016–present) providing strategic guidance for political campaigns. Post-Congress, he served as a special master in the Arizona Senate's 2021 Maricopa County election audit review. He is married to Shirley Shadegg, has children including son Stephen Shadegg, and is Episcopalian.
