John Mordecai Podhoretz, born April 18, 1961, in New York City, is an American conservative writer, journalist, political commentator, columnist, and editor. He is the son of prominent neoconservative intellectuals Norman Podhoretz and Midge Decter. Podhoretz graduated from the University of Chicago in 1981 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He began his journalistic career as a researcher at Time magazine before moving to Washington, D.C., where he served as a speechwriter for President Ronald Reagan and worked in the administration of George H.W. Bush during the 1980s. He co-founded The Weekly Standard with William Kristol and Fred Barnes and served as its deputy editor. Podhoretz has held key editorial positions, including running the editorial page of the New York Post. Since 2009, he has been the editor-in-chief of Commentary magazine, succeeding his father in this role, and he also hosts Commentary's podcast. A prolific conservative political commentator, he has contributed to numerous publications and authored several books on politics, establishing himself as a prominent voice in American conservatism.
