James Guy Tucker Jr. is an American politician, lawyer, and businessman who served as the 43rd Governor of Arkansas from 1992 until his resignation in 1996. A member of the Democratic Party, Tucker's political career spanned several prominent roles, including Arkansas Attorney General from 1973 to 1977, U.S. Representative for Arkansas's 2nd congressional district from 1977 to 1979, and Lieutenant Governor of Arkansas from 1991 to 1992. He ascended to the governorship following the resignation of Bill Clinton to become President. Tucker's tenure as governor was cut short by his conviction on federal charges of mail fraud and conspiracy related to the Whitewater affair in 1996, leading to his resignation.
