About
Jennifer E. Stertzer is an Associate Professor and academic specializing in digital humanities and documentary editing at the University of Virginia (UVA). She serves as Director of the Center for Digital Editing and Interim Director of The Washington Papers, where she has worked as Senior Editor since around 2000, advancing digital access to historical documents, including with the Papers of George Washington. She earned a B.A. in History and Geography from Florida State University and an M.A. in History from Appalachian State University. In September 2025, as director of the Center for Digital Editing, she led the receipt of a $10 million NEH grant—one of the largest in agency history—to preserve founding-era history documents, announced amid reports of favored projects under the Trump administration. She contributes to scholarly communities, including as past faculty for editing institutes and president-elect of the Association for Documentary Editing.
