About
John Ellis "Jeb" Bush (born February 11, 1953, in Midland, Texas) is an American politician and businessman and a member of the prominent Bush political family. He is the second son of former U.S. President George H. W. Bush and former First Lady Barbara Bush and the younger brother of former President George W. Bush. Bush served as the 43rd Governor of Florida from 1999 to 2007 — becoming the first Republican to win reelection in the state's history — and was a candidate for the Republican presidential nomination in 2016.
His gubernatorial administration emphasized education reform (including the A+ Plan), tax reductions, government efficiency, and environmental protection. Before entering elected office he worked in Latin America, became fluent in Spanish, and moved to Florida in 1980, where he built a career in real estate and banking. After leaving the governorship he founded the Foundation for Excellence in Education, served on corporate boards, and was involved in investment firms with ties to Latin American business. In 2015 he launched an unsuccessful bid for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination. Bush holds dual U.S. and Spanish citizenship (granted in 2019) and continues to influence Republican politics through endorsements and his foundation.
