About
Jason Laughlin is a reporter for The Boston Globe, where he joined in July 2023 covering the Massachusetts Executive Office of Health and Human Services, with a focus on public safety, law enforcement, criminal justice, and issues affecting vulnerable populations such as wheelchair users, foster children and parents, families of people with developmental disabilities, child welfare (DCF), MassHealth estate recovery, special education court cases, and wheelchair repairs. Originally from Taunton, Massachusetts, he grew up in Richmond, Virginia, and Concord, New Hampshire. He is the son of Larry Laughlin, a longtime Associated Press bureau chief for northern New England who died in 2024 at age 75. Laughlin holds a Bachelor's degree from the College of William & Mary (field unknown), a Master's degree in English/Creative Writing from Temple University, and a Master's degree in Public Administration from the University of Pennsylvania (2011-2013). Prior to the Globe, he worked as a reporter for The Philadelphia Inquirer (~2014-2023), covering transportation, health, and criminal justice, with key stories on Philadelphia's COVID-19 pandemic response (as lead reporter), Amtrak derailment, plane engine failure incident, railroad engineer experiences with track fatalities, and transit user/worker issues.
