James Carville is an American political consultant, media personality, and prominent Democratic Party strategist best known for serving as the lead strategist for Bill Clinton's successful 1992 presidential campaign. Born and raised in Louisiana, he earned the nickname 'the Ragin' Cajun' for his fiery debating style and deep Southern roots. After serving in the United States Marine Corps, he earned undergraduate and law degrees from Louisiana State University. His career includes managing numerous successful Democratic campaigns at the state and national level, authoring several books (often with his wife, Republican strategist Mary Matalin), and serving as a frequent political commentator on CNN and other networks. He has also consulted for political campaigns internationally and taught political science at Tulane University.
