Isaac Ben-Israel (born July 26, 1949) is an Israeli military scientist, general, politician, and state official. He had a distinguished career in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), rising to the rank of General and serving as head of the military Administration for the Development of Weapons and the Technological Industry. He holds a BSc in physics and mathematics and a PhD in philosophy from Tel Aviv University. Ben-Israel is recognized as one of Israel's leading experts on space, cyber, and technological security matters. He served as chairman of the Israel Space Agency (2005–2022) and the National Council for Research and Development under the Ministry of Science, Technology and Space. He was chief cybernetics adviser to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu (2010–2012), during which he founded the National Cyber Bureau and launched the National Cyber Initiative. Politically, he was a member of the Knesset for the Kadima party (2007–2009). Currently, he heads the Security Studies program at Tel Aviv University, organizes the annual international Cyber Security conference there, and serves as head of the Israel Innovation Authority. He has influenced figures such as Nadav Zafrir in the field of national security technologies. In 2020, he controversially declared that the COVID-19 pandemic would resolve itself within seventy days regardless of intervention levels, drawing criticism amid the global health crisis.
