Inez Moore Tenenbaum (born March 8, 1951) is an American lawyer, politician, and educator affiliated with the Democratic Party. She began her career as a public school teacher before working for the South Carolina Department of Social Services and serving as director of research for the Medical, Military, Public and Municipal Affairs Committee of the South Carolina House of Representatives. From 1999 to 2011, she served as South Carolina State Superintendent of Education, overseeing significant improvements in education metrics including South Carolina being identified as an 'outperformer' on the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) and achieving the largest SAT score increase in the nation over eight years. In 2009, she was nominated by President Barack Obama and confirmed as the ninth Chairman of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), serving until October 2013. Following her tenure at the CPSC, she joined the law firm Wyche in 2016, where she provides counsel on public policy issues related to preK-12 education.
