About
Howard James Kaloogian (born December 30, 1959) is an American conservative politician, lawyer, and activist. He served as a Republican member of the California State Assembly, representing the 74th district from 1994 to 2000, where he was known for staunch conservative positions on taxation, gun rights, and opposition to abortion. After leaving office due to term limits, he remained active in Republican politics, playing a key role in the 2003 California gubernatorial recall election that led to Arnold Schwarzenegger's victory. Kaloogian founded and co-chairs Move America Forward, a nonprofit organization supporting U.S. troops and conservative causes, and has been involved in multiple right-wing advocacy groups. In 2004, he unsuccessfully ran for the U.S. Senate in California, finishing third in the Republican primary. He later sought election to the U.S. House of Representatives in a 2006 special election for California's 50th congressional district, but lost amid controversy involving a hoax website with racist content falsely attributed to his campaign. Post-2006, Kaloogian has continued conservative activism, focusing on veterans' issues and political consulting through his firm, Kaloogian & Associates, while maintaining influence in Republican networks in California.
