The City of Hawaiian Gardens is the smallest city by area in Los Angeles County, California, at 0.96 square miles (2.48 km²). Incorporated on April 9, 1964, it operates under a council-manager form of government as a general law city, with five council members elected at-large in non-partisan elections to staggered four-year terms; the mayor and mayor pro tem are selected annually from among the council. It is a contract city outsourcing major services, including police to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department (Lakewood Station), fire protection to the Los Angeles County Fire Department with ambulance services by Care Ambulance Service, library to the Los Angeles County Public Library, and health services to the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services (Whittier Health Center). Population was 14,149 as of the 2020 census and estimated at 13,457 in 2024. More than 65% of city revenue ($9.2+ million in 2022) derives from the Gardens Casino, the top employer with 913 employees; the city employs 85 people. City Hall is located at 21815 Pioneer Blvd., Hawaiian Gardens, CA 90716. The Moskowitz Foundation operates its bingo hall here and has been a significant local benefactor.
