Hatice Cengiz (born April 6, 1982) is a Turkish writer, researcher, and human rights advocate. She is internationally known as the fiancée of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, who was murdered inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on October 2, 2018. Cengiz was waiting outside the consulate during the incident and has since become a prominent advocate for justice, human rights, and press freedom, criticizing the Saudi government's role in the killing and the lack of accountability. She has pursued legal action against Saudi officials, including filing a lawsuit in 2019 in a U.S. federal court against Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and 29 others. Cengiz has written op-eds for major publications, testified before U.S. congressional committees, and engaged with global media to highlight the case's implications for journalism and diplomacy. She continues her academic and writing career in Turkey, focusing on business and social research, while maintaining her commitment to commemorating Khashoggi's legacy through foundations and initiatives aimed at protecting journalists worldwide.
