About
Hassan Jabareen is a prominent Palestinian-Israeli lawyer and human rights activist, best known as the founder and general director of Adalah (the Legal Center for Arab Minority Rights in Israel), an NGO established in 1996 that advocates for the rights of Palestinian Arab citizens of Israel through legal action, strategic litigation, and advocacy. Born in the Arab village of Kafr Kanna in northern Israel, Jabareen has dedicated his career to challenging systemic discrimination against Palestinian citizens of Israel. Under his leadership, Adalah has filed numerous petitions to Israel's Supreme Court addressing issues such as land expropriation, family reunification rights, and the impact of military policies on Arab communities. His work often critiques Israeli government and military practices, including intelligence operations by units like Unit 8200, which Adalah has legally challenged for alleged surveillance and privacy violations against Arab citizens. Jabareen's activism extends beyond the courtroom; he has been a vocal critic of policies perceived as apartheid-like and has contributed to international reports on minority rights. Despite facing backlash, including accusations of anti-Israel bias, he remains a key figure in the global discourse on Palestinian rights within Israel. His efforts have earned recognition from human rights organizations worldwide, though they have also drawn controversy for confronting powerful state institutions. Jabareen continues to lead Adalah from its base in Shfaram, advocating for legal equality and social justice.
