About
The Global Project Against Hate and Extremism (GPAHE) is a U.S.-based nonprofit organization dedicated to monitoring and countering far-right extremism, racism, bigotry, and hatred on a global scale. Founded in 2020 by Heidi Beirich and Wendy Via, both former high-level employees of the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), GPAHE addresses gaps in efforts to combat transnational hate movements. Beirich, a recognized expert on American and European extremist groups including white supremacist, anti-immigrant, antisemitic, and antigovernment movements, previously led the SPLC's Intelligence Project. The organization focuses on exposing these networks through research, education, and advocacy to promote human rights and inclusive societies, with a mission emphasizing strengthening and educating diverse global communities committed to countering hatred and supporting democratic values. It conducts investigative work on extremist activities worldwide, publishes reports, collaborates with international partners, and operates as a nonprofit to fund its global action initiatives. While primarily U.S.-based, its scope is international, targeting threats to human rights and democracy across borders.
