About
GIC Private Limited, commonly known as GIC, is Singapore's sovereign wealth fund, established in 1981 as the Government of Singapore Investment Corporation to manage the nation's foreign reserves for long-term global investments. It is a privately held entity wholly owned by the Government of Singapore, operating under the Singapore Companies Act. GIC's primary mission is to preserve and enhance the international purchasing power of Singapore's reserves, aiming to achieve returns above global inflation over a 20-year investment horizon. With assets under management estimated at approximately $770 billion (over $700 billion), it is one of the world's largest sovereign wealth funds. GIC has grown into a prominent global investor, focusing on both beta activities for efficiency and alpha strategies for value addition. The fund invests across a diverse range of asset classes, including public equities, fixed income, private equity, infrastructure, real estate, and integrated strategies that span multiple assets and geographies, encompassing equities, fixed income, and alternatives. Headquartered in Singapore and led by Chief Executive Officer Lim Chow Kiat, GIC maintains a disciplined, long-term approach to investing, with its investment activities organized into core groups such as Public Equity, Fixed Income, Private Equity & Infrastructure, and Real Estate, while also pursuing cross-asset opportunities through its Integrated Strategies Group. GIC's establishment was the brainchild of Dr. Goh Keng Swee, reflecting Singapore's strategic approach to safeguarding its financial future amid economic vulnerabilities. While maintaining a low public profile, GIC actively engages in sustainable and impactful investments, such as supporting data centers, highways, and e-commerce sectors, adapting to global trends like digital transformation and post-pandemic recovery.
