Gerard T. Leone Jr. is a former District Attorney for Middlesex County, Massachusetts, serving from January 1999 to January 2015. Elected in 1998 as a Democrat, he succeeded Scott Harshbarger and was re-elected three times in uncontested races in 2002, 2006, and 2010. His office handled thousands of prosecutions annually, including notable cases such as the prosecution of the Tsarnaev brothers' local charges related to the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing. Leone emphasized community prosecution initiatives and drug court programs during his tenure. Prior to his election as DA, he spent 14 years as an Assistant District Attorney in Middlesex County, rising to First Assistant DA. After leaving office in 2015, he transitioned to private practice, joining the Boston law firm Brody, Hardoon, Perkins & Kesten as a partner, where he specializes in civil litigation, white-collar criminal defense, and government investigations. He briefly considered a run for Massachusetts Attorney General in 2006 but did not pursue it. Leone is a graduate of Boston College and Suffolk University Law School. He resides in the Greater Boston area and has been involved in local legal and civic organizations.
