About
Idan Mor, originally Idan Onikovsky, born on July 22, 1979, in Haifa, Israel, is an Israeli comedian, cannabis activist, and former political candidate. He grew up and was educated in Haifa, where at age 13 his mother was hospitalized for manic depression at Rambam Hospital. Mor served in the IDF's 932nd Battalion of the Nahal Brigade and later studied law at the University of Haifa (degree not confirmed). He began his comedy career in 2003 with stand-up at open mic nights in Tel Aviv, becoming a regular at Camel Comedy Club until 2008 and performing improv at Tzavta. His breakthrough came in 2011 during the Israeli social justice protests, where he created and portrayed the fictional activist character Gadi Wilcherski—a Haifa resident criticizing local politics and promoting protests, cannabis legalization, veganism, and nature parties. As this character, he gained fame appearing as Batman in media and was arrested protesting at Tel Aviv City Hall. Notable solo shows include 'Ladies and Gentlemen' (post-2007) and 'Doing Work from Laughter' (2009). Television appearances feature 'The Night with Lior Shlein' (2009), 'Shutafim/Partners' (2016, 9 episodes as Gadi Wilcherski), guest on 'Naor's Friends' (2017), and a lead role and co-writer in the film 'Bazdmeg' (2019). Other projects include satirical 'Takls' campaign videos (2014), co-hosting satirical radio on 103 FM (2017), the podcast 'Fathers and Swords' (2021), and the autobiographical book 'The Book of Gadi' (2019). He ceased performing as Gadi Wilcherski in late 2022 and began a law firm internship that year. As a prominent cannabis activist, Mor led key protests such as those outside Yair Lapid's home (2013), a 'Wake Up' trance party at Yael German's home (2014), 'The Front' project and 'Ardlanah' stunt (2016, contributing to decriminalization policy shifts), a Rabin Square rally, and dancing with MK Sharren Haskel (2017). He launched the GADI'S cannabis beverage brand in the US in 2021, which became inactive by 2024. Politically, as Gadi Wilcherski, he was placed 18th on the Zehut party list for the April 2019 Knesset elections (did not pass threshold) and later left for the Red White party, placing 4th for the September 2019 elections (also failed). Personally, he is a father of one son (name undisclosed) and resides in Tel Aviv. In January 2024, he publicly disclosed complex post-traumatic stress disorder. He suffered a heart attack during a Haifa performance in February 2026, requiring hospitalization at Rambam for catheterization. Controversies include detention by Knesset Guard in 2016 after live-streaming and megaphone confiscation, releasing an anti-circumcision video in 2018 stating his son would remain 'intact,' and a February 2019 court order to pay 85,000 ILS to a traffic officer for a defamatory Facebook post following a DUI ticket.
