Sir Ephraim Yitzchak Mirvis KBE, born on 7 September 1956 in Johannesburg, South Africa, pursued rabbinical studies in Israel, receiving semicha, and attended the University of South Africa. His career began in Ireland as rabbi of the Dublin Hebrew Congregation (1982-1984) and Chief Rabbi of Ireland (1985-1992). In the UK, he served as Rabbi of the Western Marble Arch Synagogue in London (1992-1996), then Senior Rabbi at Finchley United Synagogue (Kinloss) from 1996 to 2013, while chairing the Rabbinical Council of the United Synagogue and editing Daf Hashavua. Since 2013, he has been the Current Chief Rabbi of the United Hebrew Congregations of the Commonwealth, known for interfaith work and community leadership.
