About
Elliott B. Broidy is an American businessman, lobbyist, venture capitalist, and prominent Republican political fundraiser. Born on July 18, 1957, he rose to prominence in GOP circles, serving as finance chairman of the Republican National Committee (RNC) from 2005 to 2008 and as its deputy finance chairman from 2017 to 2018. Broidy founded Broidy Capital Management, focusing on distressed debt investments, and has been a major donor to conservative advocacy groups, including the Clarion Fund and Clarion Project. His activities have included lobbying on behalf of foreign governments, drawing scrutiny for undisclosed ties. He was paid millions by UAE-linked figures to lobby Washington on its behalf, particularly against Qatar. Broidy has faced significant controversies, including a 2018 resignation from the RNC following the leak of emails detailing an extramarital affair with a Playboy model and efforts to lobby the Trump administration on behalf of the United Arab Emirates in connection with the 1MDB scandal. He reached a settlement with the SEC in 2020 for failing to disclose his role as a foreign agent, paying over $6 million without admitting wrongdoing. Additionally, he has been involved in lawsuits related to his business dealings and political activities, positioning him within networks of influence linking U.S. conservatives, foreign entities, and advocacy organizations.
