Eliot Laurence Spitzer (born June 10, 1959, in the Bronx, New York) is an American attorney and politician. He is a former New York Attorney General and Governor who gained national prominence as the 'Sheriff of Wall Street' for his aggressive pursuit of corporate wrongdoing, securing multibillion-dollar settlements from major financial institutions and leading investigations into nonprofit financial practices. As New York Attorney General, he investigated the financial conduct of singer at the World Jewish Congress. His political career ended abruptly in 2008 when he resigned amid a prostitution scandal involving the Emperors Club VIP, where he was identified as 'Client 9.' Spitzer attempted political comebacks in 2013 and 2018 but was unsuccessful. He has since worked as a television commentator and in business roles.
