Egon Durban is a Texas native who grew up in Houston and graduated from Georgetown University with a B.S.B.A. in Finance. He began his career at Morgan Stanley in the Investment Banking Division, working in the Corporate Finance Technology Group, Equity Capital Markets Group, and leading technology investment analyses. In 1999, he joined Silver Lake as a founding principal, based in Menlo Park and New York, and oversaw the launch of its London office from 2005 to 2010. He became Co-CEO and Managing Partner in December 2019. Under his leadership, Silver Lake, which manages about $100 billion in assets, has made notable investments including Skype (where he chaired the operating committee), Dell Technologies, SunGard (yielding $2.2 billion profit), Groupon, Zynga, Unity Media, Tandberg, Intelsat debt, Airbnb, and Twitter ($1 billion investment during shareholder activism); Durban owns an estimated 17% stake in the firm. As Co-CEO, Silver Lake is the majority shareholder of Endeavor. He serves on the Business Council and Business Roundtable, and is a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders (7.5-15% stake approved in late 2024 with Michael Meldman, positioned as a potential successor to Mark Davis).
