About
Dr. M. Zuhdi Jasser, also known as Zuhdi Jasser, is an American physician, former U.S. Navy officer (having served as a Lieutenant Commander), naval veteran, and prominent Muslim reformist activist. Born in 1967 to Syrian immigrant parents, he earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin in 1992 and completed his residency and internship at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. In the U.S. Navy, he worked as a staff internist for members of the U.S. Congress and Supreme Court Justices at the U.S. Capitol Physician's Office. He specializes in internal medicine and nuclear cardiology and maintains a private practice in Phoenix, Arizona. A devout Sunni Muslim, he founded the American Islamic Forum for Democracy (AIFD) in 2003, where he serves as president, advocating for the reform of Islam towards moderate, liberty-oriented interpretations while criticizing political Islam, radical ideologies, and the influence of organizations like the Muslim Brotherhood and the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR). He has been appointed to the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and has testified before Congress on issues related to Islamic extremism and religious freedom. Jasser is a frequent media commentator, appearing on outlets like Newsmax and shows hosted by Mark Levin, and authored the book 'A Battle for the Soul of Islam.' His work positions him as a key voice in countering Islamist networks in America, though it has drawn adversarial relationships with groups like CAIR.
