Donald P. Garber, born October 9, 1957, is an American sports executive and Commissioner of Major League Soccer (MLS). He graduated from the State University of New York at Oneonta in 1980 with degrees in journalism and business. Garber began his professional career at NFL Properties in 1984 as a marketing manager, advancing to Director of Marketing in 1988, where he oversaw national NFL corporate marketing efforts and created the influential 'NFL Experience' event, which became an industry standard. Prior to joining MLS in 1999, Garber accumulated 16 years of experience at the National Football League in roles spanning sales, marketing, programming, event management, public relations, and television. He also serves as CEO of Soccer United Marketing and is a member of the United States Soccer Federation board of directors. His expertise has been credited with stabilizing and expanding MLS through savvy sponsorship deals, investor relations, and public engagement strategies.
