The Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) is a U.S. Department of Defense military intelligence and combat support agency that provides intelligence to policymakers and military leaders. As a component of both the Department of Defense and the Intelligence Community, DIA specializes in military intelligence and is responsible for delivering timely intelligence to warfighters, national civilian and defense policymakers, force planners, and support personnel. The agency gathers and reports information through worldwide field sites and the Defense Attache System; conducts intelligence analysis; directs Defense Human Intelligence programs; operates the Joint Intelligence Task Force for Combating Terrorism and the Joint Military Intelligence College; coordinates Measurement and Signature Intelligence (MASINT) activities; manages collection from specialized technical sources; oversees secure DoD intelligence networks; and coordinates intelligence support for the Secretary of Defense, Joint Chiefs of Staff, Combatant Commanders, and Joint Task Forces. DIA employs over 16,500 military and civilian personnel worldwide. Additionally, the agency has funded the INC's Information Collection Program at a rate of $340,000 per month.
